LAWRENCE HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1966

50 YEAR REUNION

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 AND SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2016
FRIDAY, YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN. REALLY. BUT FOR THOSE WHO NEED A BIG PARTY, JOHNNY'S IN NORTH LAWRENCE HAS BEEN PUT ON NOTICE TO EXPECT A LARGE INVASION OF LIONS FROM 7:00 TO 10:00 PM. THIS IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC SO FOOD AND DRINK IS ON YOUR OWN. FOR THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH JOHNNY'S OR WHO HAVE FORGOTTEN, THE ADDRESS IS 401 NORTH 2ND STREET LOCATED AT THE NORTHWEST END OF THE KAW (KANSAS) RIVER BRIDGE

SATURDAY, 10:00 TO 12:00 AM. MEMORIAL AND CELEBRATION OF LIFE, FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 2415 CLINTON PARKWAY. A DIGITAL PHOTO PRESENTATION WILL REMEMBER CLASSMATES WHO HAVE PASSED WITH WHOM WE SHARED LAUGHS AND TEARS, AND REFLECT ON HOW THEY BECAME PART OF WHO WE ARE. MOURNING IS A PART OF OUR JOURNEYS THROUGH LIFE WHERE WE MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO LOSS AND COMMON DAILY OCCURRENCES TAKE ON A DIFFERENT MEANING. MEMORIES ARE BONDS WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE PART OF THE PUZZLE THAT PUT OUR LIVES TOGETHER. WE NEED NOT REMEMBER ALONE.

SATURDAY, 7:00 TO 11:00 PM. THIS IS THE BIG ONE! MACELI'S, 1031 NEW HAMPSHIRE, IS A BANQUET HALL AND THE MOST POPULAR PRIVATE CATERER IN LAWRENCE. OUR SURVEY SHOWED PEOPLE WANTING MUSIC AND DANCING YET ABLE TO TALK IN A MORE SUBDUED ATMOSPHERE WITH MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND. MACELI'S OFFERS BOTH. THE MAIN BANQUET HALL IS FOR MUSIC AND DANCING AND THE ADJACENT BISTRO ROOM IS FOR CONVERSATION. PARKING IS ACROSS THE STREET AND JUST A BLOCK AWAY FROM THE DOWNTOWN PARKING GARAGE AND THE LAWRENCE ARTS CENTER.

HEAVIER THAN USUAL APPETIZERS (HORS D'OEUVRES FOR THE FRENCH MINDED) ARE OFFERED WITH A CASH BAR.

MUSIC FROM THE '60S AND '70S IS BY DJ AND LC3 ENTERTAINMENT. DANCING IS BY YOU. FOR THOSE WHO NEED A PICTORIAL REMEMBRANCE, DIGITAL PHOTOS WILL ALSO BE IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE TAKEN AGAINST A GREEN SCREEN WHERE BACKGROUNDS ARE INSERTED LIKE OUR CHESTY LION MASCOT, OR OUR CLASS GIFT OF THE BRICK MASONRY LAWRENCE HIGH SCHOOL SIGN AT 19TH AND LOUISIANA STREETS, OR PERHAPS A YEARBOOK PAGE. GIVE US SOME IDEAS.
WE NEED THEME SUGGESTIONS FOR OUR CELEBRATION. FOR INSPIRATION, THINK OF A SONG THAT BEST DESCRIBES YOUR SENIOR YEAR. MAYBE SOMETHING LIKE ....

"WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS LOVE" (1967, Dionne Warwick), "IT'S ALL OVER NOW, BABY BLUE" (1966, The Grateful Dead), "THE AGE OF AQUARIUS" (1969, The 5th Dimension), "SURF'S UP" (1966, Brian Wilson), "MY GENERATION" (1966, the Who Tour), "TIME IS ON MY SIDE" (1966, the Rolling Stones American Tour), "LIKE A ROLLING STONE" (1966, Bob Dylan World Tour), "EIGHT MILES HIGH" (1966, The Byrds), "LET'S GET TOGETHER" (1966, The Jefferson Airplane), or just find your inspiration! GIVE US SOME IDEAS.
